Overview

The Office of Research

  • Oversees and services all aspects of research endeavors at OSU-CHS.
  • Actively pursues outside funding for the development of research infrastructure and the improvement of the research environment at the Center for Health Sciences.
  • Manages the animal facilities and has oversight over all regulatory, compliance and funding matters.

The operations include

Grants and Contracts

  • Provides both pre- and post-award services to faculty 
  • Provides faculty with notices of funding opportunities
  • Assists in the development and submission of budgets to funding organizations
  • Facilitates the submission of grants and contracts to the appropriate funding agencies

Post-award services include

  • General management of grant/contract accounts
  • Assisting funded faculty in the day-to-day management of their accounts 

Institutional Review Board Administration

  • Oversees proposals for human subject clinic research
  • Maintains all records for ongoing projects
  • Continuous review and archiving of records of past studies
  • Compliance requirements are managed by the Director of Human Subject Research

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee

  • Oversees proposals for animal use in biomedical science research
  • maintains all records for ongoing projects
  • Continuous review and archiving of records of past studies
  • All compliance requirements as mandated by the USDA are managed through the Office of Research and the IACUC

Laboratory Safety and Regulatory Compliance

Responsible for maintaining all necessary assurances and licensures and oversees general laboratory safety in accordance with OSHA guidelines. 

The Laboratory Safety Coordinator

  • Sits on as an ex officio member of each of the institutional Biosafety committees (Institutional Biosafety Committee, Radiation Safety, and Research Committee)
  • Is a certified Radiation Safety Officer and logs/tracks entry of radioisotopes, manages the pick-up and disposal of radioactive waste
  • Manages the movement and disposal of hazardous chemicals

Clinical Trials Office

  • Responsible for the development of clinical trials and clinical contract work with pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufactures
  • Facilitates the matching of faculty with likely contract agencies
  • Manages the contracting process
