The clinical experience represents an opportunity for clinical athletic training students to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to practical situations. Under the direct supervision of a BOC certified athletic trainer preceptor, students develop their clinical skills in injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, counseling and education of athletes. The athletic trainer serves as a clinical instructor and mentor to the student as they continue through this process.
While at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences, students will be assigned to several clinical preceptors. Many of these clinical preceptors supervise a number of intercollegiate athletic teams throughout the course of a season. However, to broaden the students' healthcare experience in the athletic training profession, there are several clinical sites and preceptors within the high school, rehabilitation clinic and other health care settings.
