Enrollment Procedure

Minimum and Maximum Hours of Enrollment
Full-time Status
The student will matriculate in the program with the first enrollment after formal acceptance by the Dean of the Graduate College. It is important that the graduate student in Biomedical Sciences understand the apprenticeship nature of graduate education. Therefore, a full-time graduate student will work in a department full-time performing tasks (coursework, research, teaching) as assigned by the major advisor. The graduate program is not a two-semester per year program but a 12-month per year program. If the degree is not completed by the end of the second year for the M.S., fourth year for the Ph.D., or seventh year for the D.O./Ph.D., the student must enroll in Research and Thesis for two hours per semester or summer term until degree requirements have been completed.

During the summer, when fewer courses are offered, each student is expected to be working on research assigned by the major advisor. If a major advisor has not been chosen, each student will be under the supervision of the program director.

Part-time Students
M.S. or Ph.D. students may enroll in the programs on a part-time basis for coursework but not for research. M.S. students must spend at least one semester and Ph.D. students one year in full-time residence for the research project. For part-time students, all degree requirements must be completed within seven years for the M.S. and nine years for the Ph.D.

Enrolling
Blank enrollment forms may be found in the Graduate Forms section of the Biomedical Sciences website:  http://www.healthsciences.okstate.edu/biomedical/forms.cfm. Students should visit their advisor, the Program Director, or the Associate Dean for Biomedical Sciences to determine the appropriate classes to take. Enrollment forms should then be signed by a Biomedical Sciences professor and turned into the Coordinator of Student Records in Room B-157B for processing.

Drop/Add
Drop and add forms can also be obtained from the Graduate Forms section of the website. This form should be completed with the assistance of your advisor and returned to the Coordinator of Student records. Please consult the academic calendar to find pertinent drop and add deadlines for the given semester.
