OSU-CHS Biomedical Sciences graduate students represent a diverse group, from the research they conduct (ranging from examination of fossils in the Mojave Desert to modeling neuroinflammation in in vitro and in vivo models) to the places they call home (including India, Nigeria, Iran, Jamaica, and China, as well as Oklahoma, California, and Pennsylvania). To obtain their graduate degrees (Ph.D., M.S., D.O./Ph.D., and D.O./M.S.), our students complete required and elective courses while conducting research under the direction of our faculty. Our faculty have a variety of research interests, and provide hands-on training in techniques including—but not limited to—cell culture, site-directed mutagenesis, RT-PCR, ELISAs, Western blots, electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, pharmacology, and behavioral analyses of ingestion, social bonding, and stress.

The OSU-CHS Biomedical Sciences Graduate Student Association (BSGSA) is involved in numerous activities at OSU-CHS and beyond. Journal clubs, meetings with seminar speakers, and outreach activities such as elementary school science fairs are only some of BSGSA’s activities. In fact, our annual science fair at a local elementary school was acknowledged by the state (Oklahoma Higher Education Campus E-clips: http://www.okhighered.org/newsletter/stories/Archives/052009-OSU-CHS-mentors.html) and received the ‘Award for Excellence’ by Oklahoma’s Partners In Education.
