Research Interests

Chemotherapy of Naegleria fowleri.  We determine the in vitro activity of various chemotherapeutic drugs against isolates of N. fowleri obtained from persons with fatal infections in Oklahoma and Texas. Drugs active in vitro are examined for in vivo efficacy in a mouse model of primary amebic meningoencephalitis.

Biographical Information

With my background in pharmacy and pharmacology, I strive to focus on the pharmacological principles that underlie the therapeutic use of drugs, and I have recently authored a pharmacology textbook and review book. We have introduced case conferences in the pharmacology courses that focus on clinical problems and examples. Recently, we have utilized a Web-based platform to present course material and provide study guides and evaluation instruments. Our goal is to increase student-centered learning in the classroom as well as via Web-based instruction.
