Electives

Scheduling Hospitals

You must have the information regarding a specific physician or rotation dates before calling any hospital. The Office of Clinical Education has information regarding sites used in the past. You may also talk with your fellow classmates or check the AOA directory and phonebook.

However you obtain elective preceptors, please adhere to the following guidelines when setting up elective rotations at hospitals, before calling the physician or site:

  1. Do your own research when choosing a physician as a preceptor - do not contact a site and ask "which doctors take medical students for a Radiology rotation?"
  2. Hillcrest has an Elective application of their own, in addition to the Green sheet, you may obtain this form from the Office of Clinical Education.
  3. St. Francis requires a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) listing the preceptor, dates, and specialty.

Please approach these physicians and sites with your paperwork ready and complete so you do not frustrate them with lack of information and coordination. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Clinical Education.
