Dr. Cherry is a longtime physician educator who previously served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Senior Associate Dean, and is currently serving as Advisor to the President, Professor of Family Medicine and Director of Continuing Medical Education at the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Cherry, a licensed pharmacist, received his Doctor of Osteopathy from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City. He joined the faculty of the Oklahoma College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery (now OSU) in 1977 and was instrumental in receiving grant funding to develop the OSU Family Medicine Residency Program.
Dr. Cherry is a Fellow in the American College of Family Practitioners and completed an Osteopathic Heritage Health Policy Fellowship from the American Osteopathic Association in 2001. He serves on the board of the Osteopathic Medical Education Consortium of Oklahoma and is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Council of Deans.
He is a member of the College Academic Council, College Cabinet, Physician Manpower Training Commission Student Scholarship Committee, and served as Chair of the Student Selection Committee from 1991-2003. Dr. Cherry was recently nominated by OSU President David Schmidly to serve on the Image Enhancement Taskforce for Oklahoma State University.
