Frequencies, Proportions, Percentages
Frequency - number in a particular category
Proportion - number in category/total number
Percentage - Proportion * 100
Write in descending order - highest to lowest
Count number in each variable
Grouped Frequency Distributions
Choose groups
Write in descending order - highest to lowest
Count number in each group
Add groups for total number
Example
Major             (freq) (proportion)               %
Psychology               27            27/124=.2178               21.78%
Chemistry                 54             54/124=.4355            43.55%
Biology                     43            43/124=.3468            34.68%
                        n = 124                         1.0001                  100.01%
Graphing Frequencies
Title the graph and label each axis
Histograms
continuous variables
bars are placed at the true limits and are connected
Frequency Polygon
continuous variable
points at midpoint and then connected
Bar graph
categorical (discrete) variable
Category names on X axis, bars do not touch
Line graph Ð not for frequency data
