OSU Medical Center
Emergency Medicine Residency
Program Description
OSU Medical Center handles nearly 40,000 emergency room visits per year. Operating out of new facilities, the Emergency Department maintains a chest pain clinic as well as an observation ward. The experience for residents in this program is extraordinary and includes rotations in cardiology, neurosurgery, orthopedics and general surgery, ICU/CCU and others. An extensive set of out-of-house rotations are required including rape exam experience, toxicology, and pediatric intensive care.
Program didactics include a weekly conference, morbidity/mortality review, case presentations and journal club. A second set of weekly conferences is directed toward the upper level residents, as well as impromptu lectures during shift work. Independent research and a required scientific paper are part of this program.
