Dean Paul P. Koro, D.O., with first-year medical student Amanda
Madden at the 2002 White Coat Ceremony. |

As I
write my first Dean's letter at Oklahoma State University
College of Osteopathic Medicine,I am reminded of the awesome
responsibility of educating exceptional physicians. Each leader before
me has felt that calling, and I hope to build upon the strong
foundation that my predecessors laid.Much credit should be given
to
our former Dean Tom Allen,D.O.,who was a tireless advocate for the
health sciences at OSU.During his tenure, the medical school
received national rankings by U.S.News and was recognized by the
Oklahoma State legislature as a Center for Health Sciences.
Along with our recent successes come growing pains,as our
campus has been in major transition this past summer.Regents
approved a re-engineering plan of administrative support functions
that resulted in a few early retirements and layoffs. The
restructuring is projected to save the University over a million
dollars.
A proposed relocation to the OSU-Tulsa campus (about two miles
from the medical school)is also in the works to ease overcrowding
of
research space and provide opportunity for academic growth.
These
changes are reflected in our magazine this fall with an
open invitation to operation Doctor Orange, coming to your
neighborhood soon. You will also read about our success in
telemedicine, our health careers opportunity program and plans to
open
a new community clinic for elderly and low-income families. As always,
you will recognize our alumni who support their school with passion
and
zeal,as do our students who are exploring the "real world."
I sincerely
hope you enjoy learning about the many people
who make our College a unique tapestry of talent and true love for
the profession.
Warmest
Regards,
Paul
Peter Koro, D.O., Interim Dean
