OSU Graduates 86 Doctors
(TULSA, OK) — Formal medical training has ended but the learning journey has just begun for 86 men and women awarded the doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Hundreds of family and friends gathered for the commencement ceremony, Saturday, May 18th, at Tulsa's Performing Arts Center.
James E. Halligan, Ph.D., president of Oklahoma State University, delivered the commencement address.
Dr. Halligan told the graduates, "You are about to embark on an exciting time in your life. As physicians, you have the tremendous responsibility to care for the sick and injured." Halligan warned the doctors to nurture their physical and mental capabilities. He encouraged daily exercise and reading. He also told the physicians that they must have compassion. "Without the human touch, healing is very difficult," Halligan said.
The doctor of osteopathic medicine degree is the culmination of four years of medical training, including two years of classroom and laboratory studies and two years of clinical rotations. Graduates will now go on to a graduate medical education program. Most will begin an internship in a hospital or medical center across the country.
