OSU physician receives highest ACOOG award

showalterTULSA, Okla. — Anita Showalter, D.O., chair and assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, has received the Distinguished Fellow award from the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

It is the highest award ACOOG confers on its members and is given for meritorious service to ACOOG and for academic achievements that promote the practice of obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Showalter is serving her second term on the ACOOG board of trustees, chairs the ad hoc committee for Osteopathic Practices and Principles, is a member of the membership and promotions committee, was an annual conference program chair, served on the continuing medical education committee, and has given lectures and workshops at CME conferences.  She is helping to develop a curriculum on Osteopathic Practice and Principles for the Female Patient.

“This will be a state-of-the-art multimedia DVD that will incorporate teaching vignettes with text on managing the OB/GYN patient from an osteopathic perspective.  We hope that this curriculum will help us teach osteopathic principles more effectively in our residency programs and be available for physicians in practice to refresh their skills,” Dr. Showalter said.

Dr. Showalter is a graduate of the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and was in private practice in Ohio before joining OSU.
