Approximately 90 students from Eugene Fields Elementary (4th and 5th Graders)

Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine medical students will educate children about healthy living in an attempt to fight childhood obesity and show the dangers of tobacco and drug use.

Program:  Students will spend 25 minutes in three breakout sessions

  • Health
    • Students will receive a jump rope and will be learning about different ways to exercise
    • Students will be educated about the necessity of daily exercise to combat obesity
  • Nutrition
    • Students will be making a healthy trail mix and will learn about the food pyramid
  • Anatomy
    • Students will be examining human organs (brain, lungs, heart) and will discuss the effects of smoking and drug use on their bodies
    • Students will also be educated about the importance of dental health and will receive toothpaste and toothbrushes
