Minh Ngo (MS- Toxicology student) presented a poster, “Estrogen and HSD2 Neuron Labeling in the Nucleus Tractus Solitarius,” at the OK Alliance for Minority Participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics held in Stillwater on September 20,2008.
TeeCie West (PhD student, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, specializing in Microbial Forensics) participated in the Visiting Scientist Program at the FBI Academy, Quantico,VA. TeeCie’s work in the Counter-Terrorism and Forensic Science Research Unit (CFSRU) was sponsored by Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) and USDA-CSREES National Needs Fellowship. Her project was titled “Forensic Applications of Fatty Acid Analysis of Bacillus cereus T-strain using FAME.”
Stephanie Rogers (PhD student, Plant Pathology, specializing in Microbial Forensics) participated in the Visiting Scientist Program at the FBI Academy, Quantico, VA. Stephanie’s work in the Counter-Terrorism and Forensic Science Research Unit (CFSRU) was sponsored by Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) and USDA-CSREES National Needs Fellowship. Her project was titled “Identifying a Positive Control for use in a Body Fluid Discriminatory Assay.”
Andrew Taylor (MS student, DNA) was a visiting I R & D intern at Signature Science in Austin, TX. Andrew’s work, “Developing an aerial spore sampling method incorporating an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)” was sponsored, in part, by the OSU Forensic Science program.
Kelly Ayres (MFSA student) was recently published. The citation for her article is: Ayers, K. R. (2008). The development and recovery of identical latent impressions from independent investigations. Journal of Forensic Identification, 58 (4), 432-436.
Alumni
Tim Allen (MFSA 2006) is employed in the Forensic Science laboratory of the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). Tim’s position of Management Analyst is designed to assist TIGTA with a variety of management functions. Tim retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service. He and his family live in Beltsville, MD.
Ben Lum (MFSA-QD 2009) has met the training and personal evaluation requirements to be eligible to apply for Assessor Qualification with ASCLD/LAB International. Ben completed a training course that included a written examination; he received an excellent personal evaluation that was conducted during the class. Ben is now a certified Technical ISO assessor and assessed his first laboratory system this October.
Erin Doyle (MS-Pathology 2006) is working for the Orange County Sheriff Department, Santa Ana, CA, in Forensic Science Services. She works in the Blood Alcohol section and analyzes blood samples for the presence of alcohol; Erin testifies for blood and breath cases on analysis and interpretation of results. Her duties also include maintenance of the breath alcohol instruments as well as teaching officers how to use this equipment in the field.
Eric Duvall (MS-DNA 2008) has been employed as a forensic scientist in the DNA unit of the Denver Police Department Crime Lab.
Janice Joslin (MS-DNA 2004) has been named Criminalist of the Year by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI). In one year’s time, Janice closed 136 cases – one-third more than her peers. Due to her hard work, she helped reduce the turnaround time on cases by two-thirds. Janice works out of the OSBI Laboratory in Tahlequah and has been with the bureau for four years.
Mike Ritze (MFSA 2005) is now an adjunct professor at Northeastern State University – Broken Arrow and for the Oklahoma State CLEET (Council Law Enforcement Education and Training). He has also lectured at the Oklahoma Bar Association Forensic Academy and at the Oklahoma State Sheriff’s Association annual convention. Mike was recently elected to the OK State House of Representatives but will continue to consult for several law firms in forensic science.
