If you or another participant is not located within driving distance of our laboratory, we can assist you in locating a collection site that will collect the specimen(s) and forward them to us. A chain of custody is maintained at all times.

*Parentage test
The parentage test fee is assessed regardless of whether or not the known parent is tested. We strongly encourage the known parent to participate in the test; no additional laboratory fees are incurred to include this parent in the test.

**Prenatal parentage test
The mother will need to consult an OBGYN for collection of amniotic fluid or CVS. The collection facility should contact the OSU Human Identity Testing laboratory at 1-800-299-7919 prior to collection. This contact is necessary to insure that all the necessary paperwork is available and that the collector understands how to complete our paperwork and how to transport the sample(s) to our laboratory. We can test uncultured amniotic fluid, CVS samples, or cultured cells. Although failures with uncultured fluid or CVS are infrequent, we do not have the facilities to culture these samples.

Fees associated with sample collection outside of our facility are the responsibility of the client and the collection facility unless previously arranged.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

• Photo identification for everyone over the age of 18
• Birth certificate for children under the age of 18
• Name and contact information for all those who are to receive a report; this might include an attorney, an adoption agency, or a government agency in addition to the test participants.
•  Payments in full at the time of sample collection. We accept cash, cashier’s checks, or money orders made out to Oklahoma State University Human Identity testing laboratory. Visa and MasterCard are also accepted. In pre-approved situations we often accept the blood draw facility’s business check.

WHAT TYPE OF SAMPLES CAN BE USED

• Buccal swabs: This is the preferred collection method for adults and children.  Two cotton-tipped swabs are rubbed on the inside of each check for about 15 seconds.
• Umbilical cord blood: This blood sample is collected from the child at the time of birth. Your OB/GYN should contact our facility prior to the birth of your child. Buccal swabs will be collected from the parents.
• Amniotic Fluid: This sample is collected during your pregnancy. Your OB/GYN should contact our facility prior to the birth of your child. Buccal swabs will be collected from the parents.
• Chorionic Villi Sample (CVS): This sample is collected during your pregnancy. Your OB/GYN should contact our facility prior to the birth of your child. Buccal swabs will be collected from the parents.
• Deceased person sample: FTA blood spot cards, paraffin blocks, tissue, bones and teeth are examples of materials that can be used. Contact our facility for further information.
