Cassani Lectureship Series highlights impact of organ donation
Three speakers will present personal and professional information about the important of organ donation and transplantation during the annual Cassani Lectureship Series for first- and second-year medical students on Friday at 1 p.m. in Dunlap Auditorium. Lunch will be available for students prior to the start of the lecture.
Starla Cassani, co-founder of the Colby Foundation, will share the story of the loss of her infant son, Colby Cassani, and the decision to donate his organs. Starla and her husband, John Cassani, D.O., a family physician and 1980 graduate of the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, founded the Colby Foundation to help promote the organ donation and share stories of the lives saved from a heartbreaking situation.
Stephanie Scott, R.N., organ recovery coordinator for LifeShare Transplant Donor Services of Oklahoma, will present transplantation donor and recipient information for physicians. Jo Ann Winn, executive director of the Sooner Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, will share information about how organ transplantation can change the lives of people suffering from the disease.
