Lecture examines physical responses to social rejection

SilkJennifer Silk, Ph.D., associate professor of psychiatry and psychology and director of the Developmental Affective Science Collective at the University of Pittsburg Medical School, will present a study on how the brain responds to social rejection during a special lecture tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. in Dunlap Auditorium.

"Neural Response to Social Evaluation in Depressed Adolescents" will showcase Silk's research, using neuroimaging, to examine how the brain responds to peer rejection and parental criticism. Silk's research has found that the brain's response to emotional rejection is similar to its response to physical pain.

The lecture is hosted by the OSU Center for Family Resilience, OSU-Tulsa and OSU-CHS. Lunch will be provided for participants in Tulsa. The lecture will also be broadcast to Stillwater.
