Students, faculty and staff honored at commencement, banquet

Regents' Distingished Student AwardStudents, faculty and staff were recognized for their efforts during end-of-the-year activities at OSU Center for Health Sciences. More than 100 students graduated from during the university's commencement ceremony on May 17 at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center.

OSU A&M Board of Regents Chairman Andy Lester honored Keyaria Gray, D.O., with the Regents' Distinguished Student Award during commencement. The OSU A&M Board of Regents also presented Frank Champlin, Ph.D., with the Distinguished Research Award and Bill Meek, Ph.D., with the Distinguished Teaching Award on May 16.

Many other honors were presented during the Awards Banquet on May 16 at the DoubleTree Hotel at Warren Place.

Winners included Jessee Bustinza, D.O., Academic Excellence Award; Alexandria Williams, D.O., Clinical Excellence Award; Mark A. Keuchel, D.O., Leadership and Service Award; and Blake Middleton, D.O., Mind, Body and Spirit Award.

Departmental awards were presented to Keyaria Gray, D.O., Anatomy and Cell Biology; Gloria Martz, D.O., Behavioral Sciences; Willy Bustinza Farfán, D.O., Biochemistry; Bernadette Ibitokun, Ph.D., Biomedical Sciences; Mark Keuchel, D.O., Emergency Medicine; Tyler Price, D.O., Family Medicine; Rebecca Thrun, D.O., Internal Medicine; Jessee Bustinza, D.O., Microbiology; Blake Evans, D.O., Obstetrics and Gynecology; Charles Janzten, D.O., Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine; Natalie Edgar, D.O., Pathology; Sara McDonald, D.O., Pediatrics; Jessee Bustinza, D.O., Pharmacology; John Johnson, D.O., Physiology; Brandon Mason, D.O., Radiology; Sherri Armstrong, D.O., Christy Bullard, D.O., Renah Gibson, D.O., Charles Jantzen, D.O., Kerri Smith, D.O., Amanda Alsup, D.O., Rachel Pattison, D.O. and Steven Roberts, D.O., Rural Medicine; and Willy Bustinza Farfán D.O., Surgery.

Alumni Recognition Awards were presented to Mark Keuchel, D.O. and Lori Peters, D.O. Robin Dyer, D.O. and Sherry Eastman, D.O. were named Advocate of the Year by the students. They also honored Lee Stidham with the Med School Mom Award.

Members of the OSU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi were recognized, including Jessee Bustinza, D.O., Willy Bustinza Farfán, D.O., Christel Dixon, D.O., Natalie Edgar, D.O., Keyaria Gray, D.O., Kaitlin Isley, D.O., John Johnson, D.O., Nicole Kucera, D.O., Kerri Smith, D.O. and Kyle Summers, D.O.

Dr. Kayse Shrum, provost of OSU-CHS and dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, honored student ambassadors who helped promote OSU-CHS during their time in medical school. Those recognized include Blake Evans, D.O., Keyaria Gray, D.O., Mark Keuchel, D.O., Kenneth McDonald, D.O., and Kyle Summers, D.O.

Students selected William D. Meek, Ph.D., and Susan K. Steele, D.O., as grand marshals for the commencement ceremony. The honored faculty members lead the faculty and student procession during the ceremony.
