Jeremy Lyon, Ph.D., superintendent for the Frisco Independent School District in Texas, will be the keynote speaker on Tuesday during the third annual Fit 2 Learn Summit. The conference will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at OSU-CHS. The event is aimed at helping schools teach children to live healthy.
Lyon will discuss five practices to promote staff and student health and wellness in schools in a session beginning at 9:10 a.m. Other sessions will feature action-based learning, understanding problematic behaviors, smart snacks and healthy fundraisers, cooking for kids and much more. Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister will provide the closing presentation at 4:25 p.m.
More than 150 teachers, support staff, parents, public health advocates and community leaders are expected to attend the event hosted by the Tulsa County Wellness Partnership. Other organizers include OSU-CHS, Shape Your Future campaign and Tobacco Free Coalition for Tulsa County. The summit is sponsored by the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust.
