William Pettit, D.O., OSU-CHS provost, and Robin Dyer, D.O., associate dean of academic affairs, will kick off orientation week for first-year medical students at 9 a.m. on Monday.
Students will volunteer with local charities that day as part of the annual Dr. Pete’s Big Event, which is designed to build camaraderie among class members and fulfill the OSU-CHS mission of community service. A barbecue lunch for first-year medical students and faculty will follow in Founders Hall along with a visit from Pete’s Pet Posse Tulsa members.
The week will continue with sessions on campus basics, anatomy, OMM, curriculum overview, clinical education, academic standards and policies, library resources, security, student affairs, basic life support training and more. Orientation will cap off with the 2016 White Coat Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Van Trease Performing Arts Center for Education at the Tulsa Community College Southeast Campus.
