OSU-CHS 2011 commencement

Eighty-seven osteopathic medicine degrees, 17 graduate degrees in biomedical sciences and forensic sciences and one D.O. /M.B.A. were conferred by OSU-CHS and OSU-COM on Friday, May 13 in Tulsa.

Congratulations, graduates.


OOA honors President Barnett and alumni

Howard G. Barnett, Jr., president of OSU in Tulsa, received the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association Award of Appreciation at its annual convention in April.  He was recognized for bringing the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine to the forefront in the OSU system, the state’s legislature and within the city of Tulsa.   

Four OSU-COM alumni also were honored. R. Greg Martens, D.O., Durant, received the A. T. Still Award of Excellence, given for exemplifying and helping to preserve the teachings and philosophy of osteopathic medicine.  Jason L. Hill, D.O., Talihina, was recognized for being a preceptor for osteopathic student education and required rotations for OSU-COM on behalf of the Choctaw Nation Healthcare Center. 

Awards of Appreciation were presented to Douglas C. Nolan, D.O., Tahlequah, for being a preceptor for osteopathic student education and required rotations for OSU-COM and for service as residency director for family medicine at the Tahlequah City Hospital on behalf of the Cherokee Nation Health Services; and to Ryan W. Schafer, D.O., Ardmore, for being a preceptor for osteopathic student education and required rotations for the OSU-COM on behalf of the Chickasaw National Medical Center.

Retired professor honored by Federation of State Medical Boards

Thomas R. Pickard, D.O., retired OSU-CHS associate professor of family medicine, received the John H. Clark M.D. leadership award from the Federation of State Medical Boards of the United States at the federation’s annual meeting. He received the award for his leadership in the field of medical licensure and discipline, and for his commitment to advancing the public good. Pickard retired from OSU in 2010, after 25 years of service.


FA/ST and Pup Rally Tuesday, May 17

Sports fans, take note. The “Rumble by the River” faculty/staff coed softball tournament is Tuesday, May 17, at Lesion Field.  MS I plays MS II at 5:15 p.m.  Faculty/staff team plays the winning team and defends its title at 6:45 p.m. Vote for cutest, most school spirit or most awesome dog, for just one dollar per each vote at the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Student Association Pup Rally and Dog Show. Proceeds help purchase supplies for the Eugene Field Science Fair and other BSGSA events.


OSU-COM Alumni Association golf classic returns June 10

The Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine Alumni Association Summer Golf Classic golf tournament is Friday, June 10, at Clary Fields Golf Club in Sapulpa.  Proceeds from the event help to support scholarships, student activities and programs at the OSU College of Medicine.   Registration begins at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start is at 1 p.m. Same-day registration is by check or cash only. Clary Fields is located at 9999 S. 49th W. Ave. in Sapulpa. For more information, contact Miller at (918) 561-8226.
