White Coat Ceremony is Sunday

First-year students at the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine will receive their medical student white coats during the school’s 13th annual White Coat Ceremony Sunday, Aug. 7.  The event is at 3 p.m. at the Tulsa Community College  VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education, 10300 E. 81st St.

The ceremony emphasizes the importance of the doctor-patient relationship and focuses on the true meaning of the art and science of medicine. The white coats are provided to students by the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association.  

Howard G. Barnett, Jr., president of OSU in Tulsa, will welcome guests. Joan Stewart, D.O., associate dean for Clinical Education, will present the first-year osteopathic medicine students.

William J. Pettit, D.O., associate dean for Rural Health and professor of Family Medicine, and LeRoy E. Young, D.O., president of OOA, will cloak the students, who will recite the osteopathic oath of commitment led by Dr. Young. The event is open to the public.


OSU volunteers assist at Antiques Roadshow taping in Tulsa

Also volunteering were Wanda Rountree, Loretta Smart, Marie Hardin, David Cornsilk, Amber Hood, Susan White, Patricia Lindstrom, Beth Webb, Dave Moyers, Rebecca Wilson, Susan Tolbart, Jack Robison and Lindy Kroehnert.   

Three episodes from the Tulsa visit will air from January to June 2012 on OETA, Tulsa Channel 11.

Successful Supervisor Series deadline Aug. 12
Learn the secrets to becoming a successful supervisor in a training program at OSU in Tulsa. A limited number of participants will be selected for full-day workshops, held each month from September 2011 through June 2012.

Discounted football tickets on sale Aug. 23

OSU Athletics will be in Founders Hall at CHS from 11 a.m. to 1 p. m. and in OSU-Tulsa North Hall Lobby from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, offering discounted football tickets.

Student tickets to all six home games, including Bedlam, are $182.
