Campus renovations progressing
Work is underway on the new west entrance, where a sculpture will be installed in late April. The new entry is expected to be operational by March.
Renovation projects in the medical library and the clinical skills area are nearly complete and remaining projects in Merkel Auditorium, the student lounge and the anatomy lab are on schedule. In addition, construction of a new west entry is underway.
“We are making good progress,” said Bruce Benjamin, Ph.D., who oversees the interior renovation projects. “The clinical skills area and the library will be completed this week.” The clinical skills area has expanded from six to 11 examination rooms and has an enlarged teaching lab and more storage.
Merkel Auditorium will have new framing and electrical wiring, seating for approximately 150 and a 160” front projection screen with large monitors throughout the lecture hall. New lighting, seats, tables and equipment will be installed and sound absorbing material on the walls blends with the shades of beige and taupe colors of the seating areas.
The student lounge’s kitchen area tile and carpet are installed and electrical and ceiling work is being completed this week. The anatomy lab features an enlarged space with 18 stations, more monitors and a new restroom. The target date for completion is March 1.
Eric Polak, administrative affairs director, said most of the construction on the new west entry should be finished by mid-February and operational by March. Installation of a sculpture is scheduled to start April 20 and is expected to take about 22 working days.
