Alzheimer's Grant

The project:

  • trains volunteers in churches and community organizations to relieve caregivers
  • sets up support groups
  • certifies nursing home workers to specialize in caring for Alzheimer’s patients
  • provides continuing education to health professionals and consumers
  • improves quality of life for patients, caregivers, and their families

NeAHEC and Tulsa Community College along with the Oklahoma Alzheimer’s Coalition and the Tulsa Area Agency on Aging received a three-year federal grant to help families in rural areas and minorities cope with the effects of Alzheimer’s.  A two-fold model has been established to provide respite care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and/or related disorders while providing a career ladder for entry health care workers.
