What others are saying about OKAHEC Career programs:
The Club Scrub program has been invaluable asset to Cordell High School. We have six former students who are now enrolled in or currently attending medical school. One of them is my youngest daughter. In fact, my wife was a former Club Scrub sponsor and science teacher. She left the teaching profession and is now a graduate of the OU Physician Associate program. Over the years, much money has been wasted on programs that don't work. I would hate to see a program discontinued that actually does exactly what it is intended to do.

The Club SCRUB program is very valuable to high school students for many reasons. It allows for experiences that many of the students would not have if they were not in this club. They get to experience surgeries, autopsies, tours of various faculties, and learning about future careers. These students get the chance to do job shadowing to discover if this is what they want to do before spending tons of money and time in college to find out it isn't what they thought it would be. There is so much value in this club that more students should get these opportunities.

I wanted to thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for me and all of the health care students at CU. The shadowing is going amazingly well. I am learning so much and I am more excited than ever about applying [for Medical Technology] in the fall! The assistance provided during my shadowing and application processes was invaluable. During a time of high stress and uncertainty Beth provided sound guidance and a place I could go to not only get advice and guidance, she also served as my sounding board and sometimes was my voice of reason. The assistance the SWAHEC provides is invaluable to students who are navigating an often confusing system, who are looking for job shadowing opportunities, as well as assistance during and with the application process.

Southeast Oklahoma AHEC has benefited our students at Muldrow by helping them to explore career options. Furthermore, students have learned terminology about health related subject matter they haven’t yet been exposed to.”

The SEAHEC teacher has helped me learn about nutrition and many jobs available in the health career field. We also do a lot of hands-on activities and it is really fun. She has opened my eyes to health careers!

She (S. Meyer, SEAHEC) has taught me a lot about the medical field. I’m glad she comes. I know a lot more than I ever thought I would. I think that a job in the medical field would be for me. I love helping people. She has opened my eyes to a lot of different careers and I’m learning more and more every time she comes here. This class is really going to help me choose my career, and I really enjoy it because I learned so much.”

I teach 8th-12th grade and I have career education staff from NWAHEC come into my classes every other week. The students learn so much about health careers. Some have learned about occupations that they didn't even know existed! The tour at the simulation lab where the nurses are trained was very exciting. The hospital tour was great and showed us areas you typically donot get to visit. We are incorporating health careers into our lessons and the students have the chance to explore areas they may have never thought about before. I had one student go to the camp that was held last June. I hope more students will participate next summer. I definitely think the students are benefiting from it.

More than 60 cadets volunteer each cycle to be included in the elective taught by staff from NEAHEC. NEAHEC offers curriculum in career selection, professional standards, teamwork, communication, and employer expectations. Class work, activities, and field trips were all utilized successfully to interest young men and women, ages 16-18, in exploring and pursuing a health career. I keep a picture of the health career elective participants in my office. I am proud to have been associated with such a wonderful educational opportunity.

I saw the Medical Explorers program as a great resource to enlighten my son about the Health Care field. The program exposed him to several areas of the medical field and equipped him with valuable tools that would allow him to make an informed decision toward his career path. It was educational and a lot of fun, he really enjoyed the real-life application. I would gladly refer this program to anyone seeking a career path in, or anyone curious about, the medical field.
