Geriatric Education Center (GEC)
Oklahoma AHEC, OU Health Sciences Center Geriatric Education Center, and the Center for Interdisciplinary Learning and Leadership are partnering to provide aging and disabilities continuing education to health care providers throughout Oklahoma. The continuing education opportunities include quarterly grand rounds and an aging and disabilities (AD) scholars program.

Scholars Program
The OkGEC Scholars Program involves 70 hours of multi-approach geriatric/gerontological training for health care providers and others in aging-related fields.
All scholars participate in 58 hours of core program components which include:
- Program Orientation
- Structured Interview
- Active Observation
- Teaching an In-Service
- Summer Geriatric Institute
- Attend the Grand Rounds/Tidbits

June 16, 2011 - Weatherford, OK
OKAHEC is facilitating an invitation-only workshop to introduce and begin the development of a community-based palliative care coalition in Weatherford OK. The workshop is being conducted by the Oklahoma Academy of Palliative Care Education, a coalition of private practitioners from a number of diverse organizations in Tulsa. The Academy advocates for and provides training to expand the concept of palliative care from only pain and end-of life conditions for persons in the hospital, to interdisciplinary community-based services for persons suffering from many serious, chronic diseases and conditions, even early in their disease . The workshop is funded by a federal grant given to the Oklahoma Geriatric Education Center.
