EVENTS SCHEDULED
SMArts is a partnership program that targets high school juniors and seniors with health care awareness and exploration opportunities.
The partnership is between Southeast AHEC and
- McAlester Regional Health Center(MRHC) at McAlester
- Choctaw Nation Hospital at Talihina
- Choctaw Nation Clinic at Idabel
And the participating high schools located in the counties of:
- Pittsburg
- Leflore
- Pushmataha
- McCurtain
Three components comprise SMarts
- Component I - Individual health career assessment and health profession classroom presentations in the Fall semester.
- Component II - "A Day in the Life of a Health Care Professional". A full day shadowing experience at McAlester Regional Health Center
- Component III - Extensive summer internship at the McAlester Regional Health Care Center. Uniforms and a stipend will be provided.
Students are required to sign a contract after component I indicating they will complete component II and Component III of the program. There is no cost to the student or the high school to participate. Students who wish to participate in theprogram should contact James Lockhart at the Southeast Oklahoma Area Health Education Center office.
