Environmental Health Elective
Two OSU-COM students have elected to study environmental health issues, particularly related to lead, surrounding the Tar Creek Superfund site. Dr. Duane Koehler precepted Zoobia Mirza in June and Debra Crawford in August.

This fall, six ORU nursing students will be working on community health service projects with the Ottawa County Health Department and LEAD (Local Environmental Action Demanded) agency.

Health Fair at Comanche Park
OSU-COM second year medical students organized a community health fair at Comanche Park (part of Tulsa Housing Authority). 150 people attended for free question and answer with a physician, free health screenings (hearing, eyes, blood pressure, and cholesterol), and medical information on a variety of health topics. In addition, they offered children's activities and free transportation.

Dental Education at Eugene Fields
Two Langston nursing students discussed dental hygiene with two 5th grade classes at Eugene Fields Elementary School. The 5th graders were given bags with two toothbrushes, dental floss, and educational puzzles and games - all donated by local dentists and POH (a company that makes toothbrushes and dental floss). Extra bags were left with the school counselor to distribute to other students at the school.
