Student Health Status

Physical Examination
Each student entering OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine is required to have a physical examination completed and recorded on a health form provided by the College prior to matriculation.

Immunization
Entering students are required to provide evidence, prior to matriculation, of immunization for or immunity to:

  • tetanus
  • polio
  • measles
  • mumps
  • rubella
  • diphtheria
  • hepatitis B

If the hepatitis B immunization series has not been completed prior to matriculation, the series may be completed during the first year at the student’s expense.

Health Service Fees
The student health service fee is intended to cover the co-payment and deductibles of OSU-CHS students that result from the charge for an office visit to a primary care physician employed by OSU-CHS. This fee does not replace the requirement for students to obtain health insurance coverage. Students must make an appointment with an OSU Physician and follow the normal check-in procedures for patients. The fee applies for the following services:

  1. The physician fees associated with sick and preventative care visits, including well woman exams. Appointments for these visits must be made with Family Medicine, FM Women’s Health, Internal Medicine, or OB/Gyn.
  2. Up to three visits to OMM for treatment that resulted from an injury. This is not intended to cover ongoing visits associated with chronic pain.
  3. Lab tests following an inadvertent needle stick.

The following services are not covered by the fee and will be the responsibility of the student and/or their insurance:

  1. Services provided by non OSU Physicians.
  2. Specialty care, procedural fees or hospitalization.
  3. Fees associated with a pregnancy.
  4. Prescriptions and over-the-counter medications.
  5. Laboratory tests (other than for needle stick accidents).
  6. Radiology services.
  7. Supplies (crutches, etc.).
  8. Behavioral health services are available through OSU-Tulsa at no cost to students for the first five visits. Subsequent visits require co-payment.
OSU will bill the student’s insurance for services rendered and the balance (for the office visit only) will be covered by the student health services fee.

Health and Hospitalization Insurance
All students are required to provide for their own health care while attending OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine. All students must obtain and pay for health and hospitalization insurance and show proof of coverage prior to registration. Recognized proof of coverage is a photocopy of the policy naming the student as the insured or a letter from the insurance company stating that the student is insured for health/ hospitalization care, as well as a photocopy of the insurance card itself. Proof of coverage must be submitted to the registrar each year. Insurance information and applications may be obtained from the Office of Student Affairs.
